Measuring body composition
At the Vitalis Centre, we offer body composition measurement with the Bodystat quadscan 4000 high-frequency device. It is a non-invasive, rapid method of measuring body composition and function. A weak electric current travels through the body.
Why measure body composition?
The more data we have, the better we can plan and advise, and the better and faster the results. By measuring body composition, we can monitor progress more accurately.
What do we measure?
Based on the electrical conductivity of the tissues, the ratios are measured and estimated:
- lean (non-fatty),
- fat mass and
- body water.
In more detail: bioimpedance measurements show: adipose tissue mass and proportion, non-fat tissue mass and proportion, lean non-fat mass, total body water volume and proportion, basal metabolic rate, energy requirements in relation to physical activity, body mass index, fat mass index, non-fat mass index, waist/hip ratio – risk of chronic non-communicable diseases, phase angle.
The method is based on differences in the conductivity of individual tissues. Lean body mass is high in water (60-75%) and minerals – a good conductor, while fat contains a smaller proportion of electrolyte water – a poor conductor. The results are compared with the recommended values according to the age, sex, weight and height of the individual.

Who do we recommend measuring?
Body composition measurement is recommended for anyone who wants to lose body fat or gain muscle mass, as it is the only way to know for sure whether weight is being lost at the expense of body fat or muscle mass.
How does it work?
After the initial measurements of your waist and hip circumferences, lie down on the table. A Bodystat specialist applies the measuring electrodes to your wrist and ankle.
The procedure is quick and completely painless. Together with a consultation on the results, the measurement takes about 20-30 minutes.
To monitor progress, we recommend repeating the measurement after a few months.
