What is Smart Aging?
Smart aging” is an individualised programme for all those who want to LIVE life to the full, not just survive.
Regular physical activity at any age is associated with better brain function in later life. But maintaining an exercise routine into adulthood is best for maintaining mental acuity and memory.
It’s okay if we didn’t have the knowledge, the will or the time when we were younger to be in great physical shape, push our limits and eat right. Even in middle and old age, there is a lot we can do to live a healthy and successful life.
Who is Smart Aging for?
As age is not necessarily linked to years, the programme is designed for anyone who wants to not only stop the ageing process but also improve their physical and cognitive abilities through regular and appropriate exercise.
The programme is tailored to the needs of the individual who is aware that by exercising properly he/she reduces his/her biological age, maintains cognitive abilities, maintains a good immune system, maintains muscle mass and body weight, and the individual who, due to the nature of his/her work, is in a negative stress state (manager). Excessive stress is the culprit of heart disease, exhaustion and burnout, and last but not least, unhealthy accumulation of fat.
Why Smart Aging?
We know that strengthening the body and, consequently, being physically fit is not only good for physical well-being and health, but also affects our mood, organisation and retention of information (perception, retention, memory). A growing body of research confirms that the link between muscle activity and brain development is much stronger than we realise.
Strength training combined with aerobic exercise has been shown to significantly reduce the risk of diseases such as cardiovascular disease (blood pressure, cholesterol), diabetes (type 2) and cancer. It has a beneficial effect on a better immune system, stronger bones (protection against osteoporosis), maintains or increases muscle mass (after 40. Without exercise, there is a rapid decline in muscle mass, which only increases with ageing), weight control – less fat (with age, the basal metabolic rate decreases, which can lead to fat accumulation throughout the body), regulates blood pressure, strengthens the heart, improves well-being (endorphin, serotonin), improves cognitive abilities (memory, attention, language, reading comprehension, fine and gross motor skills) and overall better motor skills (strength, endurance, coordination, balance, flexibility).
Regular physical activity has also been shown to influence the production of pluripotent cells. These are undefined stem cells that can differentiate into any cell type in our body. They serve as a system in the body that is able to duplicate itself without limit in order to replace damaged or destroyed cells.
How does the Smart Aging programme work?
The recommended programme period is 3 months. This is the period of time during which we can ensure optimal results for the individual. Individual elements of the programme may be omitted if the individual does not feel they need them, or they may opt for a shorter programme period. The price of the programme is adjusted accordingly.
Individuals who join the Smart Aging programme undergo a comprehensive functional diagnosis, which is then used to design a fully individualised exercise programme. In addition to an initial discussion about goals, the programme includes kinesiological testing, physiotherapist examination, measurements, nutritional advice and post-workout recovery. We also measure your progress every month (body weight, % muscle, % fat, progress in muscle activation, muscle tone and lateral and functional symmetry).
We take a professional approach to exercise planning, so that progress and results are optimised and guaranteed.
Initial monthly package:
- TMG measurement
- 1 x Tanita body composition measurement
- 1 x kinesiological testing (flexibility, coordination, explosive power)
